ABOUT ESTHER EELEENE

Esther López Navarro (Esther Eeleene, Barcelona, 1999) is a choreographer, dancer, and interdisciplinary artist graduated at Institut del Teatre of Barcelona. Her career has expanded across Europe, the United States, and Asia, developing a unique artistic language that blends dance, film, documentary, and visual narrative.

Since 2023, she has lived between Spain and South Korea, where she has delved into K-pop, traditional Korean dance, taekwondo, and the contrasts between Eastern and Western physicalities. This intercultural dialogue is one of the central pillars of her work, which hybridizes tradition and innovation to create open-ended pieces in which the audience is invited to construct their own narrative.

Her video art short film Hello, my name is Blue won the 2024 Art Laguna Prize, selected from more than 10,000 submissions, and was exhibited at Arsenale Nord during the 2024 Venice Biennale and at the CICA Museum in South Korea. With other video productions, she was also a finalist in Chengdu, China, among 12,000 works.

In 2024, she was selected by the Seoul Street Art Festival (SSAF) as a choreographer, directing a team of dancers from Spain, Italy, China, and Korea. She has also choreographed for 32 young dancers at Cita con la Danza (Benicàssim) and at the Professional Dance Conservatory of Castellón; presented her work at the Daegu Dance Festival (Korea); and created pieces for the company Valencia Dancing Forward (Ningú (no) és perfecte, 2024, and Vuelva usted mañana, 2025).

One of her most recent projects, ¿A dónde? 어디로?, was developed between Barcelona (Can Felipa), France (Studios Dyptik) and South Korea in collaboration with the Korean company Le’title. Conceived as a site-specific and itinerant performance, the work was presented in the streets of Seoul as part of SSAF.

In 2026, Esther received support from Beques CREA – Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) and SAT! Teatre for the development of her new creation Tender Gestures, an intergenerational project developed between Barcelona and Seoul through real stories, interviews and everyday gestures, exploring care across cultures and generations. In autumn 2026, Ningú (no) és perfecte returns on tour.

In 2027, Esther has been selected to present her work within Dansa Metropolitana, continuing to strengthen the connection between her international trajectory and the artistic context of Barcelona, her home city.

Esther participates in every phase of the creative process with a holistic approach: concept, movement, visual design, filming, editing, and audience engagement. Her work addresses social and cultural issues while also celebrating the vitality and simplicity of everyday life, expanding the boundaries of dance and movement.
